Transportable or Portable Ex Equipment – What’s the Difference?
Posted on: 12.2.2018Atexor’s Business Development Manager, Tuomas Seilo, has been exploring what the difference is between transportable and portable Ex equipment in a recent LinkedIn article.
In his latest article, Tuomas identifies that workers need to take IEC/EN regulations into account as part of the risk assessment prior to entering a confined space to determine whether transportable or portable Ex equipment should be used.
Essentially, transportable equipment cannot be moved once plugged in – it must remain fixed. Whereas portable equipment – weighing between 10-20kg – can be moved once plugged in without any risk.
Tuomas outlines that it is very important to remember this distinction between the equipment, as well as its certification, from the very offset as part of the risk assessment.
Choosing the right equipment for use in hazardous and confined areas can be difficult and it is essential to get it right. With a wealth of experience, we can help you to choose the right products that are fit for purpose.
